Annette C. Buffaloe –

Annette was born in Memphis TN. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. She and her sisters loved music. They would harmonize together singing for family and friends. She was an aspiring songwriter and had written dozens of songs and she was influenced by such artists as Crystal Gayle, Ann Murray and Marie Osborne among others. When she was 21 years old, she signed a record contract with Quick Records in Memphis. She recorded two original songs Longing For You and Starry Eyed. In 1975 Roy Buffaloe and John Parker was putting together a band and wanted a female singer. Annette auditioned and not only became the female singer, but a romance erupted and Roy and Annette were married. The band “Buffalo” was born. Annette and John were singing lead with Roy playing lead guitar, John playing rhythm guitar and Annette playing piano and keyboards. John reached out to old friends Jack Bauder to play bass and Leslie Van Story playing drums. Buffalo was a very popular cover band for 12 years playing all around the Memphis area.

In 1987 Roy and Annette wanted to focus on their songwriting so they started A and R Productions a local recording studio. John joined them and for years they collaborated on many original songs.

Roy passed away in 2014. Annette resides in Memphis TN.

Roy Buffaloe –

Roy Buffaloe was born in Memphis TN. He graduated from Messick High School in Memphis. Messick High School was a mecca for musicians. Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn with Booker T and the MG’S along with Ed Bruce, The Mar-Keys, Don Nix among others roamed those halls. Roy studied guitar and became a very accomplished guitarist during his teenage years. Growing up in Memphis in the 50’s & 60’s music was everywhere. Roy was influenced by The Allman Brothers, Carlos Santana and Joe Walsh among others. Roy played with different bands and musicians including the famous singer/ songwriter Ed Bruce who also attended Messick High School.

In 1975 Roy met John Parker and Annette Caudell and they formed “Buffalo” a pop rock band. John was a singer with several bands around Memphis. Annette was a local singer, songwriter and had a record released with Quick Records. Roy and Annette married a short time later. The band was very successful and played all around the Memphis and Mid-South area.

After about a dozen years Roy wanted to concentrate on his songwriting with Annette. In 1987 Roy started A and R Productions, a local recording studio. They co-wrote many songs. John also joined them and co-wrote and recorded many songs with them as well.

Roy and Annette were together for 39 years when Roy passed away in 2014.

John Parker –

John Parker was born in Memphis TN. He started singing at an early age and was influenced by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond and The Bee Gee’s. Growing up in Memphis in the 50’s and 60’s there was music everywhere. He graduated from Messick High School where many musicians attended. Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn of Booker T and the MG’s, The Mar Keys, Ed Bruce, Don Nix, Jimi Jamison and many others walked those halls.

When John was 15 years old, John hooked up with his The Tomahawks in 1960 as a singer and guitar player. They were a local Garage Band that had a large following and played all around Memphis. The band was included in The Memphis Garage Rock Yearbook 1960-1975.

After high school, John joined a local Rock and R & B band “The Blue Notes” as lead singer. They played all around the mid-south.

In the early 70’s he joined old friends, Bob Landess and Jack Bauder to from a group called The B Jays and they played clubs in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. One of their favorite places to play was a club in Moon Lake MS, owned by Mrs. Jenkins, mother of Conway Twitty.

In 1975 John along with Roy Buffaloe and Annette Caudell formed “Buffalo”. The three of them started writing and recording music together. They spent 20 years together playing gigs, writing and recording their songs.

John now lives in Colorado Springs CO with his wife Caroline. They have 5 children and 9 grandchildren

Jack Bauder –

John “Jack” Bauder was born in Memphis Tennessee. He attended Oakhaven High School. Jack was a guitar and bass guitar player. By high school he was playing in bands and becoming a noted bass player in the Memphis area. During the mid-sixties he played with groups in Memphis such as The Tomahawks, Jackie Gilmer and The Playboys and The Starfires.

In the early 70’s he joined old friends Bob Landess and John Parker as the bass player for The B Jays, a Memphis group that was playing gigs in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.

In 1975 John along with Roy Buffalo and Annette Caudell was forming the band “Buffalo”. They needed a bass player so John called his old friend, Jack. His audition song was “One Way Out” by the Allman Brothers. Roy said “if he could ace that song he was hired”. Jack obviously had no problem, so he was hired. Jack not only was a great bass player but also a good singer. He sang lead on several songs and also did a lot of backup vocals.

Jack passed away in 1994.


Leslie Van Story –

Leslie Van Story was born in Memphis in 1951. He attended Memphis schools,

Leslie grew up with music in his household. His father, Marcus Van Story, was a bass player with Warren Smith at Sun Records in Memphis and also was a member of The Sun Rhythm Section.

As a teenager Leslie was a singer and drummer. He recorded drum tracks for his father at Sun Records and at the age of 16 Leslie was offered a recording contract by Sun Records. They were looking for a blonde-haired, blue-eyed soul singer to compete with the soul music coming out of Memphis at Stax records. He was a young father at the time and his wife refused to allow him to sign the contract. Leslie played with several groups in Memphis.

In 1977 he joined Buffalo with his old friends John Parker and Jack Bauder, whom he had played many gigs with over the years.

Guest Artist

Gina Barnes –

Gina Barnes grew up with music in the family. Her mother and stepfather, Annette and Roy Buffaloe, were singing and playing with ‘Buffalo” most of her life. Gina’s first experience on stage was at the age of 14 as a special guest singing with Buffalo.

Gina and her brother Philip started several bands in Memphis, Southern Exposure and He Said She Said. They were both very successful in the Memphis area.

Gina currently is lead singer for the very popular band Memphis Funk-N-Horns”.
